A little shop packed with Brummie heart (or art!).
Pulled together in just four short days (with many, many helpers!), Chris Unitt and Pete Ashton are running the shop, Created in Birmingham. The Bull Ring offered the space (you’ll find the store opposite the Apple store on the Debenham’s side of the Bull Ring) and Pete and Chris accepted! It’ll be open for at least a couple months and if it’s successful (which we hope it will be!) it could even run longer.
It displays and sells stuff made by, you guessed it, Birmingham artists. The store is a spin off from the weblog of the same name which was voted the best UK blog in 2008 and mediaguardian Innovations Award for best Independent Blog 2008 [co-winner]. Since December 2006 the Created in Birmingham weblog sought to create buzz centering on “Birmingham’s vibrant creative community.” Now, the store is helping increase not only sales of local artists, but also displaying the talented artists who are about in England’s second city.
What can you expect to find there? All kinds of neat things! Donato Esposito’s shirts (also known as @BostinBloke on Twitter) are present along with artwork, tote bags and much more. So, go on then, have a peek at this lovely store showing off what treasures Birmingham has to offer-you know you want to!
Watch this space for any updates about the future of Created in Birmingham!
***Special thanks to Pete Ashton who I spoke with about the store today!
